This one time, at CouchCamp,
Some things I learned/observed/gleaned at the Event of the Year, in no particular order…
- It’s on. World domination is imminent. CouchDB!
- Walker Creek Ranch is beautiful, it’s people, giving. Thanks for hosting us. Please, have us back.
- Ted Leung was right: Beer enables community. The Egyptians knew this, but CouchCampers discovered the Platonic manifestation of that concept this week.
- “Mongo” and “Java” are often winning punchlines to any joke, no matter the context.
- Telling someone that you write Java in your day job either elicits laughter or sympathy, EVEN FROM OTHER JAVA PEOPLE. Oracle, take note.
- BigCouch is even cooler than I thought, and I already thought it was cool. Thanks, Cloudant!
- Thanks, Stuart Langridge, for having the cojones to come and yell “Fix this!”
- Thanks, Josh Berkus, for reminding us not to reinvent the wheel.
- Thanks, Selena Deckelmann, for reminding us to “Drink!”
- Monsanto isn’t evil, as long as Ryan works there.
- Other than CouchDB, Node.js was on everyone’s lips. Whither shall it go?
- Mikeal can grill. Let no one say otherwise.
- It was great to meet Claire and JChris and AmySue and and and ad nauseam. I enjoyed meeting all of you and consider myself lucky to have done so.
- Last, it has yet to be determined who is better at Interpretive Dance: Damian, or Wally, the Interpretive Dance Raccoon. Future dance-offs must be scheduled. May the best mammal win!
Another, more technical, post is coming after this one, I think. Still processing.
